Jay,
As there are a number of queries and known issues with workarounds that keep occuring, how about a new
NS8 Hints & Tips
folder, contains the info folks want without the clutter. I guess thats a FAQ by any other means, and we know they've worked well elsewhere over the years, and they are a very good source for info on pre V8 netscape.
Unfortunately it would probably only work if adding to it was similiar to the announcements folder, ie more work for you I'm afraid......
As an example, below is a summary of the actively developed and supported Themes for a '
Get Your NS8 Themes Here
' message to kick things off.... I've omitted ones that are not being actively developed, if I've missed any out, sorry.
This is aimed as a starting point, so if the authors involved have views, I hope we'll hear........ eg real names vs forum IDs etc....

(1)
Included with NS8 as a default theme
(2)
Support is on the boards at SillyDog.org, you will need to register there to post a question.
<---------------- END
I've never figured out how to add more rows to an existing table, so I've left a few blank ones at the bottom, if you know how to do this, pls removed them.... I've avoided a theme version column to limit the updates needed....
PS. Modern Modoki 1.18 is out, but the Theme Park still has the 1.17 version, hence the double listing.

Very nice.
An fyi, though. Both Aluminum Alloy and Sky Pilot Classic work in 8.0.2+.

Continuing the idea, here's an idea for tip 2:-
Touchpad 'Virtual Scrolling' & Other Mouse Problems
If you are having problems with the advanced features of your Touchpad or mouse and NS8, such as virtual scrolling etc, these are often due to a bug in the device driver for the touchpad - even if things are fine with your other applications.
The good news is that they can be fixed with an update to the touchpad/mouse driver software, and updating the Synaptics or Logitech drivers have fixed NS8 Touchpad & Mouse problems for many folks.
If you are using a Synaptics driver, download the latest version from the
Synaptics Site here
If you are using a Logitech driver. download the latest version from the
Logitech site here
Unfortunately there is not currently a driver update that fixes problems with ALPS touchpads.

Here's another ----->
NS8 'locks-up' up with 100% CPU if started after 22:00
There is currently a rather weird NS8 bug linked to your Windows Time Zone. NS8 will 'lock-up' with 100% CPU and be totally unresponsive, 14 minutes after starting, if:-
You start NS8 between 22:00 and 24:00
and
your Time Zone is set between GMT -1 and GMT +11 inclusive.
This basically means Europe, Africa and Asia are affected, but you're fine in North or South America
In
all other
Time Zones it works fine
Workaround
Use a timezone
outside
the dodgy region. ie GMT -2 (Mid Atlantic) or GMT +12 (New Zealand).
Then adjust the clock so the time to be correct. eg use GMT -2 and then changed the clock back to UK/French/German time etc. This way you have the right time, it's just you probably aren't living in mid ocean....
Note:
If you have a single PC you'll be fine, but if you have a Network, to avoid file date/time isses due to different Time Zones, you'll need to apply this change to the other networked PCs.
<-------------------- END
Jay, I assume you would be able to delete messages from a Hints & Tips folder....? Then, when this bug is fixed, this hint could be removed....

That was quick........
If you're happy putting things on uFAQ fine, but could you stick up a message in announcements so that folks who come here know where to go to find things easily ....?
Also, the slightly lighter grey used for the URL links is so close to the black that if is not obvious they are clickable until you hover over them. Any chance of a blue ....? At first I thought they had been lost in the copy.....
Also, the notes section has a heading but no actual notes...
PS. It might be easier to find in the FAQ if named 'Get Your NS8 themes here' or something, rather than 'hints and tips'

Jay,
I was thinking each tip would have been a separate message in a new folder here, hence its title would provide an easy way to find relavent info, and would be found easily from a search of the boards.
imho, the same should apply in the uFAQ list. i.e. list each tip as a separate FAQ item with its own title, again to make finding relavent info easier.

Additional Logitech Mouse Tips
See here for the original Hint
.
1) Backwards & Forwards don't work.
(Edit)
If after the
driver upgrade
you are still having problems with Backwards and Forwards in Netscape with your Logitech mouse, there are some tips on the
Logitech Support Forum
s:-
How do I make the Back & Forward mouse buttons work in Firefox & Mozilla?
Frequently Asked Questions about Mozilla Firefox and Logitech Mice
Remember NS8 is based on Firefox Ver 1.07, so Firefox Mouse tips are probably worth a try.

.....as the timezone problem is thankfully a distant memory, I guess it can now be banished from your
FAQ
........

It surely could be but I like to keep things archived on the original page(s). This can be good thing when programming staffers search for past problems and fixes. The UFAQ is crawled by Google et al on a regular basis.
