A lot of times, I use more than one search.

Yahoo is my No. 1.  I use that first.  If I'm not liking what I find, I'll move onto Google.  But for the most part, the same sites tend to come up no matter which Engine I use.

You can get Google and 29 other popular searches simply by going to the Mycroft Top 30.

I use "Ask Jeeves" the most since google is not that helpful anymore.  "Ask Jeeves" gives me the sites related to my search keywords not unlike google that gave me sites that were not related to my search terms at all

Searches I undertake are largely "Boolean" in nature; therefore, I continue to use AltaVista, this notwithstanding that CMGI has mostly abandoned DEC's (at one time ground-breaking) technoligcal wonder in favour of their adopting Yahoo!'s.

None of the other engines, regardless of their "advanced" search options, seem to be able to drill down to any sufficient degree, whereas AltaVista still apparently does, even if the first 200 odd hits either are totally unrelated or paid palcements.

If I'm seriously at a loss (I really, really, have to want this) for finding relevant content using the canned commercial engines, I'll invoke either the original Archie- or Gopher-client , and run the search using my Server's own hard-disk resources; but, this is not for the faint-hearted, as a simple query could return many hundreds of thousands of hits and require untold giga-bytes of disk-space to archive the pages, and subsequently many hours of filtering through the collected data.  In the end, it is usually worthwhile, especially for largely undocumented legacy content which remains on Servers Worldwide, but is no-longer linked through current web-links.

I mainly use 37.com for my searches but Altavista is close second with Google all  the way on the bottom.

Google has always been on top there are others but the majority use Google.  There is an enhancement found here where in a dropdown window you can install a number of engines then pick and choose..

Enjoy
