Dear Margaret,

I just forwarded this link to my daughter's 7th grade English teacher. This woman needs a laugh, I have seen first hand what she had to read-you'd think she would stop assigning the writing just to preserve her sanity.

That was fun! I love the closing lines of his poem:

"And strong though was the bond of friendship,

But help I couldn’t to cruelly up you trip."

Who is this guy and how does he know so much about bad writing?

Don't know who he is, but I'd bet a quarter that he has taught.

I had students who thought that the thesaurus would make everything better....

I do teach, and I recognize every one of those writerly failings from various classes.

I was moved to write a response in the guy's blog:

"You write badly so very well
You could be Poet Laureate in Hell."

He is a writer and performer and I quote

"Joel is a tutor at the Open University, where he teaches an advanced course in Creative Writing. He is also a reader for The Literary Consultancy and does work in schools through Creative Partnerships. Through the Vital Communities programme, he is writer in residence for the village of Wisbech St Mary."
