What are your outlines for writing opening and closing double quotation marks?

Thanks,

Liz Aldrich

Liz, I have outlines that I came up with that make sense to me, but I may be the only one.  I don't care for phonetic outlines for punctuation, like KWO for quote.  I use "air quotes":  PH-FP.  That is open/close toggle.  I use WR-RB for close quote, for those times that I forget or don't know to open the quote, I can still close correctly.  I add the vowels to the open quote outline for open quote, cap next.

For the times when they're about to quote a document, as in The document says, "...  I'll write the document says says, which brings in my comma and quotes.  The same with "as follows," "reads," etc.  And I end the quote with AOIRBGS for comma, end quote and AOIFPLT for end quote, period.

Barb, I've adopted your SAIS/SAIS approach.  Love it!

I'll write the document says says, which brings in my comma and quotes.

I use

KWAET = open quote
KWAETS = close quote

and along the same line:

SKWAET = single open quote
SKWAETS = single close quote
