At the busy dental office where I work, one patient was always late. Once when I called to confirm an appointment, he said, "I'll be about 15 minutes late. That won't be a problem, will it?"

"No," I told him. "We just won't have time to give you an anesthetic."

He arrived early.

Hah.  The dentist used to tell my mother "If you want anaesthetic, get here 15 minutes early."

My mother couldn't even get me there on time, much less early.  Early wasn't in her vocabulary.  So I had all my childhood fillings put in with no painkiller at all.

I have all my dental work done without anesthesia but that's my choice.

My choice, too! My dentist thinks I'm nuts... <g>

If it had been my choice I might think differently about it, but I had no say in the matter and would never willingly go through that again.

I do tell the dentist not to swab my gum with that pre-injection stuff.  All it does is make me drool.  Just give me the shot and get it over with.

I have bad reactions to Novocain and I have a high tolerance for pain.

Hi Marte :) :)

I never had any anesthetic until I was in high school at least.
I had braces in junior high school and I think that dentist
would tighten them until the tears from my eyes dripped off of
my chin.

The only time I ever had a bad reaction to Novocaine was when a dentist had to spend an hour wrestling one of my molars out.  I had so many shots to survive that process that I was hallucinating afterwards.

I think it was very nearly as hard on the dentist as it was on me, to tell you the truth.  That tooth was an ungodly mess.

My husband (age 62) just got braces a couple months ago.  So far, he hasn't been as crabby as I feared he would be.  :)

That must have been a deep rooted molar.

Deep rooted, twisted, and with corroded silver points from a long-ago root canal.  Nasty piece of work all around.  And that's the tooth I've never been able to have replaced.
