20-Oct-2009--Apple updated its Mac offerings today, introducing a new Mac Mini, a new MacBook, a new iMac, and a new Bluetooth Mouse.

1. iMac  -- featuring brilliant LED-backlit 21.5 and 27-inch widescreen displays in a new edge-to-edge glass design and seamless all aluminum enclosure. The new iMac line, starting at $1,199, is the fastest ever with Intel Core 2 Duo processors starting at 3.06 GHz, and Core i5 and i7 quad-core processors for up to twice the performance. Every new iMac ships with a wireless keyboard and the all new wireless Magic Mouse, the world’s first mouse with Multi-Touch technology.

2. Magic Mouse -- the first mouse to use Apple’s revolutionary Multi-Touch technology. Pioneered on iPhone, iPod touch and Mac notebook trackpads, Multi-Touch allows customers to navigate using intuitive finger gestures. Instead of mechanical buttons, scroll wheels or scroll balls, the entire top of the Magic Mouse is a seamless Multi-Touch surface. Magic Mouse comes standard with the new iMac and will be available as a Mac accessory at just $69.

3. MacBook  -- durable polycarbonate unibody design featuring a brilliant LED-backlit display, a glass Multi-Touch trackpad and Apple’s innovative built-in battery for up to seven hours of battery life. Inheriting technology and design features from the MacBook Pro line, the new MacBook is an ideal consumer notebook for students and new Mac users, and is available for $999.

4. Mac Mini -- More memory. A faster processor. And still the world’s most energy-efficient desktop computer. Starting at $599.

I must have that mouse. I do not like my Mighty Mouse.

Yeah, the Magic Mouse does look pretty cool.  I watched the video.  Might take some getting used.

If you get one, let us know how you like it!

I'm going to have to take a look at it the next time I go to the mall (the closest Apple store) or Best Buy. It looks like it might be larger than the Mighty Mouse which could be a problem for me as I have small hands. I recently replaced my keyboard and I like the small one now that I'm used to it.

I got the Magic Mouse. I used it for one day and I don't think I could get used to it for the same reason I don't use the touchpads on my laptops. I guess I'm just a button person.

I thought the scrolling feature would be great and it wasn't bad, but I turned off the two-finger swipe. I kept swiping when I didn't want to. I like to have control of my mice.

I'm packing it up and taking it back this week.

I went back to my Mighty Mouse (also wireless). The Magic Mouse is nice looking and it might work for others but it just isn't right for me. The mouse I actually like best is my mini Targus that I use for my netbook and my laptop. It's a matter of preference.

Have you ever used a trackball?  I started using a Kensington trackball years ago and got hooked.

I don't like mice at all and find the trackpad on my laptop hopeless to use.  I carry my trackball in my laptop bag when I travel.  It's fun going through security with it....not.   I almost always have to take it out of the bag because the agents don't recognize it on the xray screen.

>>Have you ever used a trackball?  I started using a Kensington trackball years ago and got hooked.<<

My husband was having wrist problems with a mouse so I got him a trackball which he loved, but whenever I had to do something on his computer it drove me nuts.  I think my major problem with pointing devices is that I'm left-handed and I started use mice a long time ago before they made them switchable so I got used to using them with my right hand. I was never able to switch and I think that's why I have a problem with anything other than conventional mice. Laptop trackpads are impossible for me. For my netbook I bought a sleeve with a little compartment where I keep the Targus mini mouse. I had no problem going through security except that the netbook is so small the agent thought it was a DVD player.

The only reason I wanted to switch to the Magic Mouse is that sometimes the scroll button/ball on my Mighty Mouse gets stuck but otherwise the mouse is okay.

I love trackballs. I have one for my desktop and another one for my laptop. I have used them since 1986 with my first MacPlus. Back when I worked in an office it was a real deterrent to other people using my computer. Between my left handedness (reversed buttons) and only a trackball attached to the computer most people would leave leave it alone.

Both you and Jan would probably like the Magic Mouse if you like trackballs.

One is a Kensington Orbit and one a Logitech Marble Mouse (strange to call a trackball a mouse?). I have also had Kensington Turbos in the past (before USB). I seem to prefer the ones with larger balls.

Maybe but I prefer something that does not move and does not need batteries. I also have never liked track pads. If I see one in a store I will try it but I will not be going to look for one.

I think it's overpriced and I did try it before I bought it. Still it drove me crazy. I was ready to turn off all the option except the regular mouse option so I packed it up and back it goes.

There may be a problem Flash playback caused by the drivers for the Magic Mouse. See this post in Apple's Discussion Groups:
