Do you know what's out in your garden? This little quiz is fun.  What's your score? I missed one.

Daryl, here are my results--I blame it on the wine we had tonight with dinner:

You scored: 7 / 10
You scored 105 points.
The average score for this quiz: 8 / 10

Regards, Len [g]

I would blame it on the wine too Len. <ggg>

I missed the small yellow flower.  I knew a dandelion didn't fit the description, but neither did any of the others, to my mind.  Our Texas buttercups do not look like their description.

I also got 9/10.  I missed #1 - I thought a four-leaf clover leaf was comprised of 4 leaflets.  May I be excused? - we don't have those in our lawn!  But lots of Poa annua and turkey poop!

Carol

I'll try to find more quizzes. You can take them before dinner next time. ;-)

For most of the world, Buttercup = Ranunculus.  What's a Texas Buttercup? Is it a yellow Oenothera?

Lots of Poa annua here, too, but no turkey poop.

According to my husband, it was the pink oenothera.  According to my mother, it was a generic term for daffodils, etc. According to my father, it was any small yellow flower that was not on a bitterweed.  Can you see why the term confuses me?

The ranunculas that I know are many petaled and come in many colors - a desirable bulb that is rather finicky here.  They are very doubled, always.

Buttercup a pink Oenothera? I wonder where that came from, since butter is yellow.

Ranunculus as sold under that name these days is a highly hybridized, ugly (to me) mess. I think (but don't hold me to it) that the fancy things were called "Persian Ranunculus" way back when.

Ranunculus the genus is huge, with hundreds of species, most quite plain.
