Thank you, Mary, for your good wishes.

My wife and I will go out for dinner at a local restaurant--it will of course be turkey followed by pumpkin pie.  I'll eat my share as an expression of my thanks for the many good things I enjoy even though neither turkey nor pumpkin pie are high on my list of culinary delights.

Ciao,

Doug in Vancouver, BC

Thanks so much, Mary, for your good wishes.   My son [&his dog] came for dinner yesterday [Sunday] since it was more convenient and less traffic than today!   It's our traditional turkey and trimmings dinner but I don't do a whole turkey anymore - just the parts!   Saves having to get someone to lift it all out of the oven!!   Geoffrey likes drumsticks so I do 4 of them - 2 for dinner and 2 to  take home with him.   I also roast boneless thighs and a rolled breast roast.   Add the stuffing, roast veggies, mashed potatoes [for Geoffrey], gravy and cranberry sauce and it is just great.   And yes, the pumpkin pie an hour or so later.   Even the dog had a tin of 'Thanksgiving Dinner' which was full of turkey, apples, carrots and other goodies.   It actually smells and looks good enough for humans.

I agree that our date for Thanksgiving is much nicer - yours is far too close to Christmas for my liking.   I think ours was originally based on the church's Harvest celebrations and we certainly wouldn't be getting the harvest in come November.   I guess it would be quite different in the southern states though.

Thanks again for you wishes,
Mary in Vancouver, Canada.

I thought I might see a post from Vancouver Mary--glad to see that all is well with you to the point where you can whip up a little turkey for your son.

Your post and that of Alabama Mary reminded me that one of my professional colleagues, older than I am and also long since retired, used to have a Canadian Thanksgiving up here on the coast with his family, and then within the week head south in their fifth-wheel trailer and be resident in a RV Park on the north side of the freeway across from Palm Springs in time for American Thanksgiving.

Ciao,

Doug
