One of my testers in my DNA project was notified of a match of  25? two days ago.  By a person with only a number from a company with an "administrator."  We haven't found out the name of the person who matched ours yet.  The company is also a sperm donor lab.  We figure it's an adopted person looking for family...but don't think it's a good idea to match people up with a NUMBER with no name.

Still trying to digest this one.

Wow that must be scary for any sperm donors out there.   Probably safe if there is only a number, but a new way to find a biological father!   Most interesting - do let us know what happens and what you are able to find out.

Maybe we should start a "Sperm Donors Beware" site.  :-)  The most pressing problem at the moment is that we're afraid some of our group will withdraw from our project.  Some of the older DNA testers could be freaked out by this.

I've written to the company and complained that we were not given a heads up and should have been.  I think this event is unprecedented.  We'll see what the company says.  I'll keep everyone posted, as this is something many of you might run in to eventually.  "Virgin territory"    Duh!  :-)

All...

This "number" was a brother of a young woman (25 yrs. old). The young woman  didn't have any knowledge about DNA or how it works.  She had her brother's sperm tested, because she was looking for her biological father who was a sperm donor according to her mother.  Well, if her brother has a different father, which she said he did...then she could not learn a thing from having her brother's DNA tested.  It took me all day to find out where she was coming from and then more time to explain to her that she wasted her money.  Ai yi yi yi yi!  What a hoot and a waste of time!

She probably expected to have "Daddy" phone her after the test was done!   Some people just don't understand, do they?   You would think that she might have found out more before paying for the test though.   What does something like that cost?   I'm not very knowledgeable about DNA as a resource, but I did look into what it could show when they first started talking about it.

Glad you got it sorted though!

Mary

LOL!  Probably.  She claims her mother is still alive, had two boys, and then for her third child (her) had a sperm donor.  Now why would anybody with any sense at all think that using her BROTHER'S sperm would tell her anything under those circumstances?  Well, this has certainly been interesting.
