AARP, AMA Go Public on Obama's Plans

President Barack Obama's plans to overhaul America's health care system received a dramatic boost Thursday as the AARP [American Association of Retired Persons] and AMA [American Medical Association] endorsed his proposed plan to cover Americans' health care needs.  How do you now rate the odds of a health care plan passing this year?

One of the most powerful lobbies in the country, the AARP claims 35 million members -- a powerful voice by any measure.

But their members are also of the 50+ age group -- a critical voting block because polls show they tend to get out to vote on election day.

How important do you think AARP's decision to endorse President Obama's health care plans will be in getting them through Congress this session?

Could doctors also be important as shapers of Americans' opinions on this topic?  If so, how important do you think the AMA's endorsement of President Obama's plan will be in shaping people's opinions?

President Obama himself just stepped to the podium at the White House press briefing room to deliver his personal thanks to the AARP and AMA for their endorsement.

What else do you think President Obama will have to do to assure his proposals of passage through an often rancorous Congress?

What do _you_ think about the president's proposals for a national health care program?  Do you favor or oppose them?

Do you think there is any issue which _most_ Americans feel is more important to them right now than:

  1. Our economy;

  2. Health care and how to provide and pay for it?
