This is the first news report I have seen of a modern Hooverville and its destruction...

City apologizes for razing a homeless camp.

Boy, that sure sucks. as if those folks llives weren't miserable enough. Sounds like St Louis is living by the motto of postal management: there is nothing so bad that can happen to you that management can't, and won't, try to make it worse. If you're living in a cardboard box- we'll steam-roll it while you're out trying to collect aluminum cans.

I think St. Louis is a city in chaos and it is unclear if it will go the way of Detroit or the way of Pittsburgh.  There are many vacant industrial/warehouse facilities which could be retrofitted as homeless shelters.

Reminds me of the old movie "Mister Deeds Goes To Town." Cooper wanted to help the needy, but even his millions wasn't enough to make a dent in the depression.

Sorry Richard but as far as I can tell there is no Mister Deeds in this story.

Losing Busch beer couldn't have helped the economy.  I thought St Louis was making a comeback when I lived there in the 90's.  The flood slowed things down and even the gambling boats spend time in dry dock.  I've loved parts of St Louis: Beer factory, zoo, arch, Ram's; watching the river boats/barges, etc.  There are still some big business firms there.  The "Show Me" state has shown us.
