Just before going on along trip with computer - Murphy in action!

Averatec 1020ED. No CD, since reinstallation is supposed to be done from the hard drive itself. I was never able to create a CD for reinstallation, because Averatc's lack of such support - then 3-4 years ago.
Win XPhome SP3 is on hd.
Safe mode repeats same white on blue, BIOS cache shadow seem non-existent.

Problem happened during / after installation of Widcomm - Rocketfish Micro Bluetooth 2.1 EDR Adaptor, which created multiple empty windows. Hard shut down.

Images:
Installation process of Bluetooth USB. If anything happened it would open another empty window. On of the windows claimed "installing", though it never happened.

Blue screen text. This screen appeared after restart and ever since in safe mode too.

I have not entered Command mode, have not tried checkdisk.

BIOS is set to boot from CD, then HD.

I hope to not loose data and programs on hd.

Found some info at:

In general a cd is wanted by them.

It's unlikely you can do much to recover. You might borrow a friend's XP CD (retail version) to see if the repair can do anything. The error is telling you that the file system is damaged, and it may or may not be recoverable. If it was caused by a drive failure, the data is gone. If by a controller failure, you'll have to decide if you want to replace the motherboard or buy a new system. In the latter case, you can pull the old drive, mount it in an external enclosure and move the files to the new system's drive.

Good luck.

Kurt

unmountable boot volume

That's a STOP 0x000000ED.

When you restart your computer or upgrade to Windows XP, you receive the "STOP 0x000000ED UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" error message

If you're lucky, the file system can be repaired by booting to the Recovery Console and running chkdsk /r. (It runs for a long time.) I have successfully recovered from this situation twice.

In order to reach the Recovery Console, you will need to have either a Windows XP installation CD or a floppy drive. If only the latter, you can download the necessary floppy.

How to obtain Windows XP Setup disks for a floppy boot installation

Good luck!

How Av1020 was repaired
Just for ease of informing: Switched off computer, restarted, the Safe Mode menu showed.
Start normally - returned to Safe Mode menu
Start in Safe Mode - no hard disk
Start Command Mode - would not come, impossible to run CheckDisk.
The effective way is mentioned here. The non-working methods are described elsewhere in this report.
I made Recovery Disks (DVD) for ACER ASPIRE ONE, created using s store new computer. Reasoning: Microsoft has probably designed a way to create and use recovery disks which is common to all WinXP computers, differing only in the hardware driver requirements. If I could use such a RD without touching the drivers I may get some sort of result from where to continue.
I started Av1020 with ACER RD chose English in the language menu, when asked to continue Recovery I cancelled. After a moment the screen showed some information, the most important was that is was doing CheckDisk process. When this was finished WinXPh started automatically and has been working normally since.

I knew that running chkdsk would probably fix that situation (it has for mre).

But I didn't know that you coiuld do it by using an OEM's recovery discs.

Thanks for reporting that.

In theory the RETAIL disks can be used to recover any system, even an OEM system, if what you need is to use the recovery tools that are going to "remark" bootable partitions or repair boot files. At that low level (just the boot files/info) Windows is still all the same, without doing anything that starts getting "personal" about the hardware and branding.
