Everyone knows that speed kills. We have heard it for years but a recent study seems to show that is not true.

Inattention kills... most anywhere, not just on the highway...

I'm still nostalgic for the Autobahn and cruising from Trier to Frankfort at 130-150 MPH... wide smooth lanes, perfect engineering, and beautiful scenery as well...<G>

Of course the 250 HP 3 Liter Opel Senator I was driving in those days would still be pretty impressive compared to the same sized American cars today<VBG>

Montana had the same results... four years of the lowest traffic deaths recorded... but reduced the speed limit because of a lost court case...

It was decided from the bench that "Reasonable and Prudent" was not acceptable as a guide to speed since it was too vague... despite the fact that Montana law actually matched the German practice since WWII... (and you know how those judges like European precedents that don't actually apply to the US most of the time...)

Giving a ticket to idiots who were not exercising "reason" or "prudence" in their driving was determined to be unfair and arbitrary...

I guess NOT giving tickets to the folks who weren't caught was bad too... but that wasn't discussed...

Anyhow, that's why the signs with numbers for daytime speed limits went back up on Montana highways...

I did not know Montana had speed limits again. Sad, but lawyers want hard numbers for lawsuits.
And you are right inattention is what kills, look at all the low speed crashes due to the driver being distracted.

Unfortunately I've been getting more and more familiar with those... I'm scheduled to take my National EMT registration boards later this month...

THEN I'll find out just how long MY burnout period will be... Most of the "Old Farts" like myself in the Fire Department WERE EMTs... at one time...
