Just when we were all ready to call the 2009 Atlantic tropical season "toast", there's something brewing way out in the middle of the North Atlantic, 450 miles due east of Bermuda. Will it be the last tropical storm of this very quiet season?

I blinked and missed it. Did it ever make it to TS strength?

It never made it, but Ida may be forming off the coast of Nicaragua.

That mid-Atlantic storm spun up to the point where they put a big red circle around it on the maps, and then it immediately fizzled. But Ida has now been declared. It will be downgraded again to a depression very quickly almost certainly since it appears to be headed inland.
