I doubt anyone remembers me.  My name is Craig, I used to RP with a group based on Mercedes Lackey Velgarth novels.  I played Arnjolt, Midnight, Robert Silverclaw and a few others.  Years and years ago we were here.  I had eventually left and didn't remain in contact with anyone.  Unfortunately I didn't record any last names so I'm having a difficult time tracking people down.

Anyone remember this?  Is Adrienne(sp?) the op still here?  If possible, drop me a line at Arnjolt@comcast.net

Thanks!

Craig

Dri,

I was maybe 17 last time I was here.  I'm old now, 25 :)  I'm in school still, going to Madonna University out here in Michigan for a degree in Religious Studies with a minor in Business Admin.  Aside from sitting around with a broken foot, not much has been going on.  My new hobby has been my car.  It's done up a little http://www.cardomain.com/ride/676422

How've you been?

Craig,

I'm doing okay. My son is 16 and driving now. My daughters are almost-14 and 4. Started a small property management company -- my husband and I flip houses (renovate and resell). A plus side to that is now we know how to do all the stuff around our own house and not contract it out unless we want to. Eventually we'll add rental property to our portfolio.

I took a look at the link you posted. Nice car! I'm still driving a Mom Mobile (minivan), until the older two kidlets get their own cars, then I'm gonna look around for a nice sedan.

When will you graduate? For the past year we've been getting all sorts of college info packets in the mail for my son. I remember getting 'em too. He's already decided where he wants to go, and his major, so all the info coming in is just for the novelty of getting mail. <g>

Here's hoping your broken foot is healing nicely. Did you kick a building or something? ;-)

Dri

Wow.  It's quiet in here...I don't have internet access at home so I don't get out much anymore.  I recognize your name, but is any of the old crowd left?  <sigh>

I remember reading 400 messages a day....

Well Fred... I will jump in to say there are some left from days of old.. I'm here, Marilyn is here,  Cas-Cat and Dupa drop in on occasion though I don't know how long they have been here.

Alas, many of the folks who helped to make this forum so great have "Jumped ship" and now have their own web pages off somewhere that gets a lot less traffic than they got when they were here.

Of course, some of the regulars here have their own web sites too.

I don't

(never felt I had enough junk to warrant my own web site)

Fred,

I'm not sure if I qualify, even though I have been a Cser since 1987. But I was originally active on PRSIG and the WordStar from (where one of the two people running it was an aspiring novelist named Robert Sawyer#, then later on the NASW section of J-Forum #which I ran fro the last six months of its existence). After NASW went 100% to an e-mail list I looked around and decided SF Forum was my new CompuServe home. But that was a bit past the mid-90s. I remember at L.A. Con in 1995 I dropped by the CompuServe party, since I was obviously a CSer, but didn't know anybody there.

John,

I do remember you, though your active participation was ramping up about the time mine was ramping down.  The big blow for me was the loss of offline processing (I used OzWin), because the nearest Point of Presence for any ISP was a long-distance phone call away.  That is still true (I live waaaay out in the country--electricity didn't even come to my road until the early 1960's).  There are still houses out my way that are not hooked up.

Marilyn,

Good to be back, however briefly.  As I noted in my message to John, long-distance charges made on-line activity expensive for me, and I refuse to pay $60-$70 per month for a satellite connection.  Whatever happened to WizOp Wilma?  She was running this forum  when I stopped participating actively, and I have not seen her name since I returned.  I was SysOp in the Skiing forum, and when that shut down, I had much less reason to go online.

Bill,

I remember your name--you got active about the time of the SF Lit/SF Media split.  I was the mad limericker in the ST:TNG section.  Then I moved and lost TV reception.  I think my first post--addressed to Ray Feist (he's been mining Midkemia for a while!)--in this forum (still called SIGs, then) was about 1983.

Time was, if you were serious, you used Compuserve, otherwise you used "The Remedial Online Service."  That's taken from an ad. for an ISP in Vermont from quite a few years ago.

Hey, Fred!

Welcome back :-)

I've been on CS since 1991 and on staff since 1994.

Wilma turned the forum over to WyzDri a year or so after they switched from per minute charges to free.

Hope this helps!

Fred,

Wizop Wilma had some family issues which necessitated her taking a breather, so Wizop Adrienne took over for her. She and Wes are missed!

I miss OzWin, too... it was still working in 2005, at least for email, and it was the only way I could connect with people, as the phone lines in the New Orleans area after Katrina were, to say the least, shaky for several months and the bandwidth for getting on the net just wasn't there.

Well. I date back to the mid 1990's as I recall chatting with J. Michael Straczynski here on the forum...  Don't recall when you "Ramped down" but... I've been a fan of Science Fiction ever since.. Well. Bill Roper sings it best:

"When I was a Child"

Song is Wind from Rainbows End.. It's NOT fiction when I sing it.. I don't think it is when Bill sings it either.

The SF Forum first came into existence in February, 1985. I think it was the second of February.

Marilyn,

Actually, I was using OzWin for e-mail until earlier this year, when CIS finally killed the Classic service.  Pity.  Reading offline saved me a lot in phone charges.

'85 eh?  I must have found the forum immediately after it opened.  Wasn't it part of another forum before--Comedy?
