>>Well, after Dark and Light, it's clear that Rush is Zachary Smith. They had the possibility of making him a complex character, but by strongly insinuating that he knew the solution all along, they turned him into a mustache-twirling villain.<<
Well, they don't trust him, and apparently he doesn't wan to be trusted on top of it, that's why he was the only one with a sourpuss in that scene. However, the charge was only barely credible at best, and the bulk of the evidence showed that Rush didn't know they would survive. He saw the flight path of the ship, and it was headed straight for the star, combined with the extreme age of the Destiny, he had every reason to believe they wouldn't survive, and even if he suspected that the ship might protect itself and its inhabitants given the prior evidence which showed that to be its method of operation, there was no reason to believe that they wouldn't blow up as a result of systems failure. Aside from which, Rush openly admitted to Eli that he was never so happy to have been flat-out wrong in his life prior to Young leveling the accusation at him.
I don't think it's really quite as bad as you make it sound as of right now, but that's not to say that it won't get there before long. I just hope that it doesn't happen however. |
