Doc,

One other question - I cleaned the computer for fretting, as I explained earlier.  It is working well.  Does the Terminal Logic board also need to be cleaned to insure optimal performance in the future?

Hi Reavis,

Short answer = yes.

As you now know from our presentation in the FRETCOR.TXT file, fretting corrosion occurs when dissimilar metals remain in contact with each other over time. All of the H-89 IC sockets and many of the connectors were tin alloy. Especially in the case of socketed ICs (including those used on the H-89 Terminal Logic Board), fretting eventually occurs and produces a whole host of unpredictable problems.

For all H-89 boards that have socketed ICs, cleaning plus use of an oxidation preventive chemical is one of the very best procedures you can perform to extend the life of your H-89. The remarkable results offset the fact that it's definitely a tedious and boring job.
