Norton have just announced a version update to NIS/NAV 2010 17.1.0.14

This link should take you to the announcement. and details of what it does.

At present it is only available through live update and since it involves a reboot after installation you have to do a manual live update; it won't come down unattended. And it is not yet part of the downloadable installation files although this has been queried by us since one thing it fixes is a problem in updating 2009 ....

PS 10/28/09 --- Update temporarily withdrawn because FireFox Users found a major bug.

Here's a link to the thread on the Norton Forums. I think there is a workaround by disabling something but you can be sure they will announce the revision there and I'll certainly watch for it.

I hit a snag with Win7/64 and NAV 2009... Nice thing was it showed up in the Win7 "Action Center" with a link to symantec's fix page. Uninstalled NAV, ran the removal tool then went to the redownload page and reinstalled. No problems, even remembered my CD key.

Glad to hear it. If you use Firefox please see the PS I've added to my message about the version update.

There are two workarounds in this thread if you have Firefox and have lost the toolbar and some other functions.

Re: Norton Toolbar disappears after applying 17.1.0.14 patch

Go into the part of FIrefox that controls add-ons and disable all the Norton ones. Having no experience of Firefox I can't say anything more about that nor do I know what if anything of importance is inactive as a result. Since it seems to be to do with the Norton Toolbar it may be that you just lose the green flags for non-risky website sort of things.

The other, if you want to try it, is the most certain and that is to uninstall NIS 2010 (users have said using the Norton Removal Tool but don't do this if you have any other Norton applications installed since it removes everything Norton without selections, including things like GHOST and I'm not sure that it is necessary) and then reinstall NIS 2010.

If you use the Identity Safe feature and it has an export feature to save the contents, which I think it does, then use it.

If you have the installation disk you could use this and let it update because I understand that the offending update has been removed from the liveupdate servers or you can download this 81MB file and install that since it is the .136 version or should be:

New NIS 2010: Click on this link NIS 2010

Just download it using the Save option and then double click it to run it and you should be back to where you were.

Hope that helps -- I'll post as soon as I know of a new version update that hopefully will not have adverse consequences.

  Hugh
