I have two AOL/CIS screen names/accounts for accessing the CIS Bulletin Boards.  I never use the second one.  I always use xxxxx.xxxx@compuserve.com.

The past two days I am provided the preset login user name and password popup just like always which I click on to get logged in; however, about half the time now I am logged in with the second account and not the xxxxx.xxxx@compuserve.com account.  I have to exit my browser and start the process over before I get logged in correctly (and sometimes it takes more than once).

Is anyone else having a similar problem?  Any solution?

       Thanks!

You are not alone .... It has been reported.

It may be what was happening to me a few times when the login page said I was using the wrong ID or password when the ID was the one it put up and the password was the usual one.

I just closed the age and went back to it and it worked OK.

Hugh,   Thanks for the info!

I can't do what you are doing as I get logged in with the wrong account.  I tried logging out but when I came back in, I never got to see the login popup and was logged in again with the wrong account.

I had to exit the browser to get a new stab at the login popup.

I probably exited the browser too since coming here is usually a first use of the browser.

Pete -

If you're getting with the "wrong" user ID, you've got a stuck cookie. I've had the problem juggling four user ids. I ended up turning off the "remember me" flag, purging cookies and going through the pain of typing my id each time.

Good luck.

Kurt

There is no "Remember Me" flag on CompuServe logins.  Deleting Cookies does NOT help - did that myself today when the issue reared it's ugly head again...

I use separate browsers for different accounts - AOL's single cookie system is majorly flawed, unfortunately...

Dale -

There is a "remember me" on CompuServe Mail and that ID sticks with your CompuServe Forum login. As does the ID from Netscape mail and AOL mail. One other thing - after deleting cookies, close the browser (all instances and tabs) anad reopen. Otherwise some of the cookies are cached.

I agree that the cookie system has major flaws. I'm not holding my breath until it gets fixed though.

There is NO "remember me" box on the FORUM login - that has been promised, but it's still MIA...

I delete Cookies with the Browser CLOSED - nothing is cached...

Dale,   I am now unable to log in using my xxxxx.xxxx@compuserve.com account at all.  The system will only log me in on my auxiliary account...which, of course, does not accurately reflect "MY STUFF" or "Messages to Me" or etc.

I tried everything multiple times, including logging out and logging in to the online CIS email (which worked fine).

Nothing works to allow me to log in with xxxxx.xxxx@compuserve.com account.  The system automatically reverts to my auxiliary account when I visit the CIS Boards.

Well, I finally got in with my xxxxx.xxxx@compuserve.com setup.

I launched a different browser, logged in there successfully, closed that browser, launched my normal browser, and then when I clicked on the login options provided in the popup (like I always have) the operation worked this time and logged me in correctly.

       Whew!

Hopefully a fix is forthcoming for the problem(s) that cropped up the past couple of days.

When those problems occur (they take lots of different forms), I do the following. It's always worked so far.

I close the browser's forum page, open it to CompuServe's mail (http://webmail.compuserve.com), and sign in there with the Stay signed in until I sign out box checked. Then close that browser instance without signing out.

Now go back and try the forum. It always recognizes me at that point.

Jerry,   I believe someone else suggested that.  I tried the exact sequence you describe and when I came back to the CIS Boards it had me logged in with my auxiliary account and not the correct account with which I signed in at CIS mail.

PMJI:

This is a "Server side" issue and not related to Cookies at all.  The "fix" that was implimented to have our old "Classic" ID transfered is not working, for whatever reason...

Chasing Cookies (which is what you describe) is meaningless...

Correct up to a point but the AIM/AOL Stay logged in, which is perhaps what you mean, for me only remebers my ID and I have to type in the password.

That is in XP SP3 but in one of my other OSs, either VISTA or WIN 7 the Compuserve login sheet comes up with ID and password filled in and I only have to OK it.

But nothing keeps me logged in when I closed OE and open it again later. That is what is missing.

I've tried everything today, including switching browsers, and I cannot get logged in on my *.compuserve account with my primary browser.  It always logs me in on my auxiliary account even though the login popup clearly specifies my *.compuserve UID and password.

Has anyone figured out a way to force the login to the correct account?

NO.  It's a server side bug and we are powerless to do anything till it's fixed at their end...

Dale etal,   I have discovered a sequence that has worked twice in a row.

Once logged in to the wrong account, I log out.  Then I enter using a different Board than the one I was in and when I log in, I have now been logged in to the correct *.compuserve account twice.

       What a hoot!
