I use whatever I have around - usually Pine Sol, Murphy's Oil Soap, or some all-purpose cleaner.

At the house we used to live in, there was no need to using cleaning products on the linoleum.  Water and a mop was all it took.  A mild soap was okay, but not necessary.

I have a steam cleaner, and I love it - all I use on my floors is water - no chemicals what so ever!

We have the old time hardwood floors.  Not the floating and sealed ones that are available now, but the honest to god 3/4 inch oak that isn't sealed.

About once a month I'll mop it with a damp mop and get all the gunk off, then its on my hands and knees with the johnsons paste wax and the buffer.  Everyday I sweep it with a broom.

YUCK!  What I wouldn't give for carpet!

The grass is always greener....With 1 dog, 3 cats, 3 kids and a husband who often comes in from outside with car grease, I just want to pull up all the carpet up and put down hardwood floors!

If I had it to do all over again, the TV part of the living room I would carpet.  But the front door area, I would leave hardwood.  It does make it easier to clean up water, dirt and grime but when your looking at a living room that is 24 x 28 and a couple of bedrooms with all with hardwood, you tend to change your mind.  Besides that, the floor is always cold in the winter and when it gets waxed, its very slippery.  I don't know how many times I've fallen and bruised my pride on this damn floor.

Our living room is the hardest room to keep clean.  The kids eat out there when they're not supposed to and the fur-kids have had a few accidents.   Fortunately, it's been a long time since the fur-kids did anything in the living room.  <knock on wood>

I stand corrected.  It just seemed to me that any time you posted it was to promote something from your store.  I see you've commented on other topics and that is great!

We have both laminate flooring and carpet in the house. It is a job keeping the dust and junk off the laminate but at least it can be done. With three dogs the carpet has been very hard to keep clean because spills and stains are a problem. I have two carpet shampooers and one little green machine and at least once a week I have one of them out for something. The dogs track in alot of dirt from outside but now its a bit better since we put the laminate down in the den which is where their doggy door leads out to the yard. But I am mopping alot in there too but at least no more mud stains.

For me it was the old spic and span powder that came in a box for linoleum floors. I cant find it as often in the stores like I used to. Fabuloso or Pine Sol work pretty good too.

Yes, there is an advantage to laminate.  But I don't have that.  I have a solid oak floor that I absolutely despise.  Every day it has to be swept. Spots always appear where the kids are or were.  So it should be damp mopped at least once a week and then it should be waxed and buffed every week too.  Needless to say, the weekly waxing etc doesn't necessarily happen if ever. Its a all day project waiting for the wax to dry.  Its not comfortable to lay on because it is very hard and if you drop something?  Forget it.  It either breaks or dents.  The floor is also very cold in the winter.  The only advantage is that if something spills I can wipe it up easily.

Carpet is much easier. IMO.

Well you could try some good sized throw rugs like the braided type 5 by 8 or even larger to add some warmth and to keep down all the cleaning. I keep one of those under the dining room table and a runner in front of the couch in the den. They do help because I do understand about the chill in a room without carpeting.

I did have rugs all over the floor, but where we live in the desert of Washington State, there is so much dust etc in the air that if the rug moves just a little, there is a huge pile of dirt, dust and yuck. under it that just can't be sucked up by a vacuum and then scratches the wax. Dust storms are a monthly? occurrence around here.
