The corporate front group run by Dick Armey, known as FreedomWorks, is on the warpath to purge the Republican Party of any whiff of moderation.  Rolling Stone  and other media report Armey has publicly denied his associations with various staffers, including individuals he's known for years and are seen in video with him. According to the Courant, Armey plans on going to Fairfield, CT, Nov. 11, for a “strategy session” with conservative activists.

The ultra-right Republican fringe, led by Dick Armey, have announced they are planning to purge the Republican Party of moderate politicians. They've declared that Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME) are RINOs (Republicans in name only), who have "routinely abandoned or betrayed us." The Politico reports that Rep. Bob Inglis (R-SC), Gov. Charlie Crist (R-FL), former Rep. Rob Simmons (R-CT) and other Republicans who have strayed from rigid party-line positions face challenges.

Dick Armey Is Back on the Attack

How do you view the aftermath of the off-year November election results?

Were social issues more important than individual candidates?

Surprisingly, not as surprised as I should be. By that, I mean that the corrupt Republicans are keeping their jobs. One source at the Democratic headquarters said called it a "wipeout" as four key races all went the republicans’ way.

Our Republican County Executive said that the Democrats gave her party a tough fight.

“The Democrats threw everything at us that they could possibly throw at us, but at the end of the day, the voters decided that we were talking about the right things. It’s all the pocketbook issues.”

Two notes to keep in mind, from sources from both political parties: The conservative vote came up big for Republicans at the town and county level, and that could be an indication that the national landscape politically, healthcare reform, for example, is playing out in local races.

I was a little surprised at the trend for the Maine results because it looked like it was a winner for gay rights.

Was that opinion a local or national source?

Well, the off year elections were interesting. VA Dems ran a weak candidate and lost. In NJ they haven’t elected a governor of the same party as the President since the 1950’s.

But, upstate NY, now that is a real lesson for the GOP. The Right Wing ran their own candidate against the GOP candidate who was too liberal for them. They may have forced her out, but in the process they elected the first Democrat since the 1850’s. It is the old Chinese curse, may you live in interesting times.

The GOP may be crowing today, but exit polls show this wasn’t about Obama, all elections are local.

I was disappointed in Maine, particularly since they also approved opening pot shops for medicinal purposes. Makes no sense to me.

OTOH, in my area, we just voted to ban smoking with 67% for it. Go figure. I thought that would never happen here.

We banned smoking in all public places a year ago.  The traditional "We will all go bankrupt" cry failed to happen.

I was surprised that the big government forces in Maine were able to force all married people to pass the government test first.

The big government GOP wants the government to decide who can marry.  If you don't pass their test, being hetrosexual in this case, you are banned from getting married.

They only talk about smaller government.  They want more government to decide who you can marry, what medical procedures you can have, what medicines (marijuana) you can have or not - in every case they want the government to control your private behavior.

What they don't want is government to control business.  They want business to pay anything from $1.00 an hour to hiring 10 year olds for the factories.  They would be happy to have companies work workers 6 days a week for 12 hours a day.

All things that happened until unions and liberals forced companies to back off the backs of workers.

Exactly.  The GOP has always wanted bigger government.  They think 1984 is a training manual and Big Brother is the best.

I am confused, don’t the Children of the GOP always accuse us of being for 1984?? In fact, to hear them talk about the President, he is the most Radical President we have ever had.  What a joke!!!

Who are these people?   This tells the story about Dick Armey and everything you need to know about what he's all about:

FreedomWorks and a related organization, the FreedomWorks Foundation, emerged in 2003 from the splintering and merging of several conservative groups and took their names from Armey’s longtime mantra “freedom works.” (The foundation’s board includes Steve Forbes, the former presidential candidate and longtime flat-tax advocate.) The organizations raised about $7 million from donors in 2008, most of it in large donations — including gifts of $1 million and $750,000. The organizations refuse to reveal the sources of their money. They have “not received a dime” from any health insurance or pharmaceutical interests, according to Brandon, but that is impossible to confirm because under I.R.S. rules, while the organizations must list donations of more than $5,000, they are not required to publicly disclose who made those bequests.

As we drove between stops in North Carolina, I asked Armey if it bothered him that he fit the profile of the proverbial Washington fat cat — the pol who steps down from office but stays around to cash in on his connections. “The fact of the matter is when you walk out of Congress, if you’ve been effective and kept your nose clean, you have a market value in D.C. that you don’t have anyplace else,” he said. “You’re a free man on your own hoof, so why not make the best living you can for yourself?”
Corporate interests are now  the Republican establishment.   The "little people" are just the props for appropriate staging for the film at 11:00........

Dick Armey is one of the Radical Right members of the GOP, and very shrewd. He is a great political operative, and we need to keep an eye on him because he is a good organizer. We see that in the Tea Bag movement.

They TALK about being for more individual power, but they VOTE for more government control over people.  The GOP wants to force their personal views on the world with the force of law.  Except for corporations, which they want to return to 12 hour days, child labor and no benefits.

I just laugh when they say that they want their country back. Exactly what was their country before Barack’s election? The Nazi references and racial stuff bothers me, and it should bother all Americans. And, it should bother Americans that the leaders of the GOP were there and said nothing about the signs, nor the chants.

The GOP leadership and the mass media didn't seem to have any problem with the most crazy displays their followers displayed.  I have yet to see any GOPer here condemn the Nazi references, the outright lies and the hate of the right in Teabag parties.
