Grab your cameras and get out to the countryside or into your garden to take some fall foliage pictures for our November Photo Contest.

This is a friendly contest, with few rules. It's ok if you took the picture earlier than this month. It's not ok if it isn't your work.

Remember that if there's a recognizable person in your photo, you must have written permission from the person or his/her parent/guardian before you upload it.

If you don't have it in digital format, we can scan and upload it for you.  Just send a Private Message and I'll send you an address.

There's no prize - just our gratitude for sharing the beauty of your garden.

Photos will be judged by photographer and Gardening Forum SysOp LindaD.  Linda has travelled extensively and photographed plants and birds in many parts of the world

Please post your photos in this thread before Midnight EST November 30th.

Linda, okay, I post them again.  Also I'll post in another message the other foliage outings for this year again so they to are officially ended--then my fall foliage hunting for 2009 are complete--it was a good hunt but could have even been better if weather conditions, our personal schedule and hotel prices in Vt, NY, etc had been better!  [g]  Regards, Len

Len, those are beautiful pics!  I wish at times we got those colors here.  Our colors are yellow, then brown, then dead. <LoL>

Fall colors aren't as brilliant here, but I took a few the other day. The first is of 'Natchez' Crapemyrtle, the second is Fothergilla, a native shrub that loves it by my water garden. It's related to Witch Hazel, and is also known as Witch Alder.

I love the way the foliage is masked by the foliage above and doesn't all color the same way on a leaf. It's almost like we used to do in the darkroom, only in color.

Daryl, what you mean we, kemosabe!  Regards, Len [g]

footnote:

In a classic Mad Magazine cartoon (that I dimly recall), the Lone Ranger and Tonto are surrounded by a horde of hostile Indian warriors. The Lone Ranger says to Tonto "what do we do, now?," to which Tonto replies, "what you mean 'we,' kemosabe?"

These are far from professional quality, just some photos from around my town.  Fall color, to me, means more than just one plant with beautiful foliage - it's the whole town filled with trees changing color.  And the long shadows cast by the sun being at a lower angle.  Unfortunately, when you're trying to photograph street trees there are the inevitable cars parked along the curb. And, worse luck, the most beautiful street in town with huge trees is currently filled with trucks and paving machines so no pictures there.  I did spot one tree this morning that I want to go back and photograph...a huge palm tree loaded with orange dates.  Now that's fall color most folks never see.

So, anyway, fwiw...

No need for pro-quality photos. This is for fun and sharing - and I confess, I like to eavesdrop on what other people see.

It's surprising how parts of the landscapes you took look like Georgia with Crapemyrtles and Junipers and lawn.

What's that wonderful yellow tree? It's gorgeous!

I would love to see date palm fruits. I don't think I've ever seen them when they were orange. I always picture dates as being brown dried things.

Thanks for posting.
